complacency?
So pastor scolded us in church this morning. He said that he doesn't understand why, when he announced the absolution, most of us just mumbled the response. Which got me to thinking, is it really so easy to become so complacent that the forgiveness of sins is just another everyday thing?

Well, the quick answer is yes. :)
It sounds like your pastor has done a cool thing, actually. People don't feel the full salvation of the Gospel until they've been thoroughly crushed by the Law. Take this opportunity to open dialogue up with your pastor and see if he thinks his sermon has enough Law in it to convict the souls in his charge and send them rushing to the cross.
